Yet again another month has passed without any updates of any kind. Unfortunately, there were no updates because there was no work done. Fortunately, however, job searching, for the most part, is over. With the job search wrapping up as well as the semester, there will be more time available for me to pursue my projects, which is a great thing.
I've been doing some thinking between the last post and now, of course, in regards to where I want my next project to go. If you regularly read the updates here, you will already know that I had started working on a new project, which is still in its very rudimentary stages. Many times I feel that I may want to shy away from Allegro a bit and try out a new API or target piece of hardware. The thoughts are all floating around in my mind. I'd love to spend some time and tinker around with DS development. I would also love to try and whip something together for in Cocoa/OBJ-C for OS X. There are many routes I can take. The most difficult obviously include migrating away from Allegro.
Moving away from Allegro is incredibly difficult mostly because I have developed a lot of framework code that facilitates easily setting up the core shell of a game engine. Leaving that behind and learning entire new APIs in order to do the same things I already can do now seems like a lot of work "for nothing."
Lastly, I would really like to gain some more experience in pixel-art. It's very difficult to pull things together with art that looks terrible. It's also equally difficult to find artists who are truly willing to hop on board and produce ridiculous amounts of work for no real compensation.
All in all there are a lot of things I'd like to try. Here's to hoping there's enough time to try and tackle at least one of them very soon!
